Trading in games is one of the easiest ways to clean out a stack of titles you've finished and turn them into something useful — whether that's cash for the weekend or store credit toward your next pickup. At Play & Talk, we've been doing trade-ins for over 15 years, and we've made the process as straightforward as possible. Here's exactly how it works.
Step 1: Bring Your Games In
No appointment needed for small to medium trades. Just walk into any of our four Gulf Coast locations during business hours with the games you want to sell. You can bring loose discs, complete-in-box games, sealed copies, accessories — whatever you've got.
For larger collections (a milk crate of NES games, an entire PS2 library, etc.), we recommend booking an appointment so we can set aside enough time to go through everything properly. Find your nearest store and book a time online.
Step 2: We Evaluate and Make You an Offer
Our team checks each game for condition (case, manual, disc), then references current market data — PriceCharting, recent eBay sold listings, and what we know about local demand. We'll give you a clear breakdown of what each title is worth in cash and in store credit.
We always quote both numbers up front. No bait-and-switch.
Step 3: You Choose Cash or Store Credit
Once you've seen the offer, the choice is yours. Store credit always pays more than cash — usually about 25% more. If you're planning to grab anything from the shop anyway, credit is the better deal.
Cash is best if you need money in hand. Credit is best if you're going to spend it at Play & Talk anyway.
What Affects How Much You Get?
Three things determine the offer:
- Condition — Complete-in-box (CIB) games with manual and original case bring the most. Loose discs in playable condition still have value but at a lower tier. Damaged or scratched discs may not be accepted.
- Demand — Some games are always in demand (Pokémon, Zelda, Smash Bros). Sports games from older years tend to be worth less because the market is flooded.
- Rarity — Limited prints, regional exclusives, and out-of-production titles bring premium offers.
Want to Know What We're Paying Before You Visit?
We post live market values on our Bounty page. You can search for any game in our system and see the current cash and store credit offer based on real-time PriceCharting data. It's the easiest way to figure out what your collection is worth before you make the drive.
If you have something not on the bounty list, or a large collection you want a custom offer on, you can submit a quote request. Our team will get back to you within 2-3 business days.
Tips to Get the Best Offer
- Clean your discs. A wipe with a soft cloth makes a real difference
- Keep games complete. Cases and manuals add value
- Sort your collection. Saves us time and helps you get out faster
- Be realistic. We pay fair market value, not eBay listing prices (those listings often never sell at the asking price)
- Take store credit if you can. Always more money in your pocket
What We Buy
Pretty much everything game-related: Nintendo (NES through Switch), PlayStation (PS1 through PS5), Xbox (original through Series X), handhelds (Game Boy, DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita), retro systems, accessories, controllers, even some sealed product. If you're not sure if we'll take something, just ask.
FAQs
Do I need an ID to trade in games?
Yes. All trade-ins require a valid government-issued ID. Customers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Can I trade in broken consoles?
Sometimes. It depends on the system, the issue, and current demand. We'll take a look and let you know.
How long does the process take?
Small trades are usually under 15 minutes. Larger collections may take longer — for big trades we sometimes do an overnight evaluation so you don't have to wait around.
What if I don't like the offer?
You're never obligated to sell. If the offer doesn't work for you, no problem. Take your stuff home and try us another time.
